It’s hard to believe that fantasy baseball season is already here. It seems like just yesterday we were prepping for our NFL drafts. But here we are!
Fantasy baseball is an entirely different beast than fantasy football. The season is longer, the rosters are larger and you have to know about three times as many players… which is why we love it!
Here are some guys we are targeting at every position this year.
Catcher: Cal Raleigh. The most consistent power at the position and at a fraction of the cost as the top two guys.
First Base: Pete Alonso. This is one of the few positions where we recommend spending up on a top 5 guys because the depth is so shallow. Plus, Alonso should benefit from a great Mets lineup and the comfort of going back to where he used to play.
Second Base: Jordan Westburg. Should be a great all-around bat in the middle of the Orioles lineup. His ADP can vary wildly though as he is a pre-season darling so if somebody reaches for him, so be it.
Short Stop: Go big on Witt or Ellie or wait for Matt McClain. De La Cruz has often been the highest bid player in auction drafts so far this year, which is crazy to think about.
Third Base: Alex Bregman should benefit greatly from his new home ballpark. The same can be said for his replacement in Isaac Paredes if you want to wait longer.
Outfield: Have fun with one of the super sophomores like one of the Jacksons or Lawrence Butler but don’t forget the always-undervalued Ian Happ who will always get you production at a discount.
Starting Pitcher: Justin Steele, Spencer Schwallenbach are great mid-round values. For some reason, people never pay up for Zach Wheeler but he is as consistent of an ace as you will find these days and especially shines in point leagues. Oh, and don’t forget about Spencer Strider who was the number one overall SP last year and should be ready by late April.
Relief Pitcher: Mason Miller is a stud and should have more save chances for an improved A’s squard. Lucas Erceg has electric stuff and should get a fair amount of save chances which is a great combo for a late-round pick.
